Unlocking the energy of rivers for everyone

SPEARhydro is a first-of-its-kind floating hydro power plant that provides clean and stable electricity by harnessing the natural flow of rivers. We revolutionize the utilization of rivers by enabling sustainable energy production directly in cities and urban areas. By providing old floating structures with SPEARhydro ad-on and deploying new SPEARhydro modules, we aim to create a paradigm shift in how rivers are utilized.

TECHNOLOGY

Unlike the traditional turbine-based solution, SPEARhydro harnesses the river energy by using an internationally patented pendulum movement of fins located beneath a waterway- capable vessel. The slow-moving, durable fins propelled by a river stream are connected to standard generators that produce electricity. Unlike common propellers and turbines, fins don’t clog, can withstand debris, and are safe for wildlife. These unique characteristics allow long-term deployment in free flow environments that was not possible until now.

The anchored power plant can be plugged into a local grid network or can be used as an off-grid or hybrid solution for own electricity demand. SPEARhydro's modular technology offers versatility for urban areas with high energy demand.

Our technology is embedded in a transportable, plug & play device that doesn’t require large supporting infrastructure and can be deployed on any navigable river. With a targeted capacity factor higher than 80%, SPEARhydro strives for maximum efficiency. It can be customized and scaled up for various applications and use cases.

International patent application WIPO PCT WO2017082832A1 was published on May 18, 2017 with the US patent application approved on May 26, 2020 and EU patent application approved on June 7, 2023.

Applications

REAL ESTATES POWERED BY SPEAR HYDRO

Our solution offers a unique power source for riverside buildings and urban areas. In addition to power generation, our platform also provides an adaptive deck space which can be utilized for commercial and marketing purposes, or further photovoltaic power generation. Our solution addresses the lack of available 24/7 renewable energy sources suitable for urban areas, offering the long-awaited missing link for developers.

PORT OPERATORS, VESSEL AND DECK OWNERS POWERED BY SPEAR HYDRO

Our platform is capable of powering pontoons, barges, or onshore utilities and services with clean electricity. SPEARhydro offers a unique solution for floating assets that have limited ability to use other renewable energy sources such as solar or wind. The ecological nano-coating used on our platform reduces the need for maintenance and ensures a longer lifespan, addressing the frustration of periodic maintenance and environmentally harmful hull coatings. In addition to electricity production, SPEARhydro AGIS ad-on can serve as a terminal for small boats, leisure, and recreation. Ideal also for private customers with boats or marinas.

Project SPEARhydro - harnessing the energy of rivers for everyone

SPEARhydro project, focused on research and development of the technology was financed by the European Union NextGenerationEU from the Recovery and Resilience Plan of the Slovak Republic. The project, realized between April 1st, 2025 - March 31st, 2026 aimed to conduct extensive CFD simulations, mechanical and analytical computations, protyping and development of research SPEARhydro modules, development of the ARCUS platform alongside development of a linear generator and energy management system to operate and analyze the output of the SPEARhydro power generation. Archee, s.r.o. is grateful for the support and funding received by the Slovak Ministry of Economy from the Reocery and Resilience Plan and the NextGenerationEU programme, which helped us bring our technology closer to adoption and market uptake in order to decrease the reliance on fossil fuels and decarbonize our economy.
